Is it hard to install? The Gateway Module is designed to be easily mounted directly inside the Form 4C recloser cabinet and is powered by the Form 4C power supply. The Gateway Module communicates with the Form 4C controller through a supplied cable to the controllers TTL-level rear port. The Gateway Module is field installable. A point-by-point installation guide is included with the module. If additional support is required, CPI's telephone support is just a phone call away. This port supports both wired and RF modem connection to any Modbus master device. RS485 Multidrop and Fiber Optic connections can be made through optional communications converter Modules. Will I need additional hardware? The gateway module provides Modbus communications through a standard RS232 serial port. Many applications use Fiber Optic Modems, RS-232 to RS-485 Converters or RF Modems for remote Modbus communications with the MMI / Modbus Master. The Gateway Module continuously polls data from the recloser control and stores it in its internal Modbus point database. The Modbus Master device can read these values at any time. Supported supervisory control functions are implemented as writes into the Modbus 40000 register table. The Gateway module continually monitors these registers for changes and performs the required 2179 commands to execute the selected supervisory control function. Time-tagged events and load profile data are accessible from Modbus one record at a time. Two modes are supported: Most Recent Mode and Search Mode. When Most Recent Mode is selected the displayed record will always be the most recent event or load profile. In Search Mode the user is allowed to step forward or backward through the event or load profile queue one record at a time. How will it save me money? The CPI Gateway Module allows you to upgrade your existing reclosers to support industry standard protocols instead of replacing them at a much higher cost. Most utility companies do not use the remote control capabilities of the Form 4C Recloser because of the proprietary protocol required for remote communications.
