The PGE-2179 protocol driver family is a series of compiled, EPROM based programs designed for operation on the GE Fanuc 90-30 or 90-70 series Programmable Coprocessor Modules (PCM's).

The PGE Protocol 2179 driver family of products enable a GE Series 90 PLC to provide economical and secure control and monitoring of Cooper Power Systems/Kyle Form 4C Recloser Controls through a standard serial interface.

PGE-2179 is a Pacific Gas and Electric proprietary protocol implemented on Form 4C recloser controls. It is made available through a front port and a "rear" TTL level port which can be converted to standard RS232 or RS485 levels with commonly available level converter modules. CPI's PGE-2179 drivers in conjunction with a GE Series 90 PLC provides the capability for cost-effective supervisory control and monitoring of these devices from a GE PLC.

CPI's PGE-2179 drivers currently support RS-232 point-to-point connections and RS-485/422 multidrop connections for up to 247* Recloser Controls per port with data transfer rates up to the maximum speeds supported by the recloser controls.

Our PGE-2179 drivers use standard LogicMaster COMMREQ commands to implement the PGE-2179 protocol as a 'Master' for the Series 90 PLCs. LogicMaster is a PC-based software package used to configure logic and data access routines for GE Fanuc programmable logic controllers.

The driver is stored as a non-volatile, binary file on one of the PCM EPROM's. The program begins execution during PCM module power up or after a hard or soft reset of the PCM module.

*Modbus supports up to 247 devices, however physical constraints of the network may substantially limit the number of nodes that can be attached to a single physical network. Cable length, cable type and many other factors must be taken into account when designing your multi-drop network.
